Over the 12 months to December 2017, GCC consumer prices rose by 2.2%

In terms of contributions to the 2.2 percent annual increase, Tobacco and Transport contributed 0.6 percentage points each, Food and Miscellaneous 0.4 percentage points each, and Education 0.2 percentage points, in contrast, The Clothing and Footwear contributed by -0.1 percentage points.

Over the 12 months to December 2017, the country contributions to overall GCC consumer price change were UAE 1.4 percentage points, Saudi Arabia 0.4 percentage points, Kuwait 0.2 percentage points, Oman and Qatar 0.1 percentage points each, while Bahrain did not record any contribution.

MONETARY DEVELOPMENTS IN THE GCC: March 2017

Money Supply M1

The over-the-year growth rate of the narrow money M1 in the GCC region increased to 1.4 percent in March 2017, up from 0.7 percent in the year to February 2017. Kuwait recorded the highest growth rate in March of 6.7 percent and flowed by the UAE, Bahrain and KSA: 2.9, 1.6 and 1.0 percent respectively. Qatar and Oman recorded negative growth of -1.7 and -5.5 percent respectively.

Over the 12 months to November 2017, Price change for consumer goods and services (excluding housing)[1] in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries rose by 1.4%, according to figures released today by GCC-Stat, the Statistical Center for the Cooperation Council of the Arab Countries of the Gulf.

The biggest increases were for Tobacco 80.5%, Miscellaneous 4.1%, Education 3.1%, and Transport 1.2%. On the other hand, Recreation fell by -2.6%, as well as Clothing and Footwear fell by -0.8% and Restaurant & Hotels by -0.4%.

The biggest increases were for Tobacco 65.3%, Miscellaneous 3.5%, Education 3.0%, and Transport 1.6%. On the other hand, Recreation fell by -2.2%, as well as Clothing and Footwear fell -0.8%, Restaurant by -0.6% and Food by -0.5%.
