The Indicators of the Sustainable Development Goals in a GCC Statistical Workshop

The works of the regional workshop on the social, demographic and environmental indicators was launched yesterday in the context of the SDG’s. The workshop is organized by the GCC-Stat was held at its headquarters in Muscat. The organizers of the workshop aim to increase the knowledge of statisticians in the GCC countries about the indicators of the SDG’s, and to train them on how to calculate indicators and identify data sources for each indicator, as well as agreeing on the prioritization of population, social and environmental indicators at GCC level and the processes of data provision to the GCC-Stat. The seminar is attended by statisticians from the GCC national statistical offices specialized in the fields of population, social and environmental statistics, in addition to statisticians in the statistical units in the ministries and national institutions that work in the fields related to the workshop topic. Due to the large number and the wide variety of indicators to be examined, the GCC-Stat considered conducting a series of specialized regional workshops based on the main classification to population, social, environmental and economic indicators, to ensure specialization in the seminars and consistency of the knowledge and specialization backgrounds of the participants in each, and to provide the opportunity for the largest number of the subject matter experts to participate.
