GCC-STAT Board Holds Second Meeting
The Board of the Gulf Cooperation Council Statistical Center (GCC-STAT) yesterday (on Tuesday) held its second meeting this year in the Omani capital Muscat, which discussed the implementation of the road map for the statistical system in the GCC countries for the period 2015 -2020 and the action program for 2015.
The meeting also reviewed the recommendations of the meetings of the technical committees and the working groups, it also discussed the most important developments in the field of statistics, and the role of the Gulf Statistical Center and the national statistical centers in GCC countries in enhancing statistical work in the region.
The meeting also discussed the progress of the Harmonized Gulf Register-based Census 2020. In addition, the meeting approved a number of policies for the Center such as the policy of information technology and the policy of statistical analysis and the green policy.
The roadmap includes the implementation of a number of common statistical surveys in the GCC countries during the next five years in order to supplement the users of statistics inside and outside the GCC countries with coordinated statistics at various fields. The road map also includes the preparation phases for the GCC Population Census that will be carried out in 2020.
It is worth mentioning that the statistical center of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) contributes since it started its works in May 2013 in the development of statistical work in the region through cooperation and coordination with GCC statistical Centers, and through working on improving the quality of statistical indicators and data, regulating the mechanisms of data collection and dissemination using the best international practices in this area. It also organizes workshops in cooperation with local, regional and international institutions for the sake of expertise exchange, and for enhancing competencies at GCC with regard to economic and social statistics and so on which contribute in establishing a statistical system that meets the current requirements and keep pace with the comprehensive development seen in the region.
