Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning Meets with GCC-Stat Chairman

 September 2014: Within the framework of the collaborative mandate of the Gulf Cooperation Council member states, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning H.E.  and Chairman of the Board of Dirctors at the National Centre for Satistics and Information (NCSI) Sultan bin Salim Al-Habsi met with H.E. Mariam Aqeel Al-Aqeel, Director General of the Central Statistical Bureau - State of Kuwait – and Chairman of the Board of Directors at GCC-Stat and H.E. Sabir bin Said Al-Harbi Director General of GCC-STAT. During the visit H.E. Mariam Al-Aqeel and H.E. Sabir Al-Harbi have also held talks with. H.E. Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Barwani, CEO of NCSI.

 

The NCSI experience was highlighted during the talks, in addition to various other topics of common interest. The officials also discussed ways of enhancing collaboration between the GCC member states to further develop the statistical work in the region. They also touched base with the latest developments in the statistics sector in the local, regional and global arenas. Officials reaffirmed the role of statistical departments and concerned authorities in supporting and promoting the statistic sector in the region, which helps decision makers and goes in line with the comprehensive economy development witnessed in the region.
Based in the Omani capital, Muscat, GCC-Stat is the official source for statistical data, information and comparative statistics representing GCC member states as a unified body. The Centre provides various statistical figures and data and makes it available for each GCC statistical department and other regional and international organisations. The statistical outcomes of the Centre are used by researchers, economy experts and policy makers. The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council handed over the responsibility of pan-GCC statistical database and framework for committees in charge of statistics to GCC-Stat which is tasked with transforming the statistical system in the GCC countries. The Centre is the official source for pan-GCC statistical information, and it works closely with various organisations and official departments to develop the statics and data collection in the six GCC member states.
